Naturally Based Health Care

A Naturally Based Approach To Healing

Chiropractic is a whole person centered naturally based health care discipline which promotes health and wellness for persons of all ages through generalist, primary and specialty care practice. Chiropractic recognizes the natural innate intelligence of the body well integrated with the environment to establish and maintain good health and well being. Doctors of Chiropractic pursue the cause and treatment of your illness, not only the symptoms, through appropriate examination and diagnostics services and by supporting the natural recuperative and self healing powers (innate intelligence) of the body through non-drug, non-surgical methods of care.

The primary focus of Chiropractic is to determine your general current state of health and address the balance and integration of the body’s structural system with the nervous system locally and/or throughout the body. A well balanced and integrated structural – nervous system assures an effective response function of your body to the stressors encountered throughout life. An imbalance of this integrated system limits the body’s ability to efficiently adapt to the environment and maintain healthy function.

After a thorough examination, interpretation of required imaging or laboratory results and other necessary diagnostic studies, a diagnosis is established. Treatment is planned with an emphasis placed on improving nervous system function and balance through physical and natural chemical (diet, nutrients) methods of care for the general establishment good health and well being. Treatment will include specific manipulations (Adjustments) to correct subluxation which can be performed by hand or by using several instruments. The correction of subluxation results in a balancing of nervous system function so the body’s ability to self regulate and heal improves. Treatment incorporates proper nutrition, physical activity, ergonomics, recuperation and the encouragement of a positive mental attitude. Chiropractic may be utilized to address many different conditions. The effects of chiropractic treatment may be sufficient to resolve a particular condition or may be complementary to the overall treatment of the condition along with other methods of care.

Chiropractic is the natural approach for your personal health care needs.

Joint Dysfunction (Subluxation)
Joint dysfunction is a term we use to describe biomechanical faults of a joint or joint system. Any mechanical component that provides a constant physical holding and motion capacity of a structure must be in good movement capacity and coordination with other joints in a system. Altered mechanics or dysfunction in one section will mechanically affect other areas of the system. The altered mechanics that result will lead to ineffective function to hold and move another area of the system, thus limiting the effectiveness and efficiency of the whole system. Envision the kinked links on a bicycle chain which cause the chain to skip while pedaling. This essentially occurs when joints become stiff and full movement is restricted. With living tissue, altered mechanics result in increased strain and energy use of the affected tissues in the region. Also, the nerve receptors which are embedded within the tissues surrounding the joint are not stimulated to their potential thus reducing their input to your nervous system. We recognize the importance for your nervous system to be properly stimulated in order to register the physical environment throughout life. Thus, the integration of your mechanical system with your computer system is addressed when we provide care to improve the capacity and function of your musculoskeletal system. Joint dysfunction can be caused by an injury, poor posture, overuse / underuse of a joint, emotional stress as well as other factors. Using specific manipulations or adjustments for the affected joint or joint regions can return to proper mobility, stimulate your nervous system and improve function.

Whether you have pain or not, joint function is an important aspect of everyone's health and well-being. Chiropractic care provides the balance.

Disc Problems
Intervertebral discs are positioned between the vertebrae in the spine. The outside of a disc is made from cartilage, and in the center is a gelatin like solution known as the nucleus pulposus. These discs serve many purposes, including allowing movement of the spine, creating space between the vertebrae, and acting as shock absorbers. The gelatin like nucleus pulposus allows the disc to compress and expand based on impact and movement. Singular and large force or repetitive and small force trauma to the spine along with low nutrient concentrations can cause the discs to bulge, become displaced (slipped disc), or even rupture resulting in a separation of the nucleus pulposis from the disc. In youth, our discs are well hydrated and can withstand substantial forces with excellent intact healing properties. As we get older however, our discs begin to dehydrate and lose their ability to withstand many forces encountered through daily activities and excess physical events. Our susceptibility to disc injury thus increases. With disc injury comes not only the irritation of the nerve receptors within disc to cause pain, but also the chances of pressing or impinging on the nerve roots which pass in the proximity of the disc resulting in pain, numbness or weakness in the nerve distribution of the affected soft tissue and/or nerve root (i.e. sciatica). Thus, as the disc becomes more susceptible to breakdown, the greater the need for assuring the mechanical system is working in balance to assure efficient disc health and function.

If you suffer from disc related conditions you should make an appointment soon. Surgery is risky, expensive, and requires recovery time. Medications cannot correct the biomechanical faults and can lead to dependence. Chiropractic treatment is non-invasive and shown to be very safe and effective for disc related conditions.

Whiplash
Whiplash is a common injury for people involved in motor vehicle collisions and sport injuries such as concussions. When a motor vehicle is struck from behind, it causes the neck to compress and then snap backward and forward violently. This causes the fascia, muscles, tendons, ligaments, joint capsules and discs to compress and overextend, leading to sprains, strains and/or tears. The nerves, spinal cord and brain are likewise physically strained during the short 300 mili-second period of time. During this period of time, the body is susceptible to the forces imparted as there is not enough time to reflexively respond to the event. Damage to the tissues is basically dependent on the total forces involved and the resiliency or ability of the victim to absorb the forces. These factors are related to positions of victim, weight or mass of the vehicles involved, previous state of health of the victim and other factors. The degree of tissue injury may vary and can involve a few superficial tissue to many tissues from superficial to deep such as discs and nerve roots. Chiropractic treatment can help with the many types and degrees of tissue injury that can occur with motor vehicle trauma (whiplash). Treatment will be provided with full consideration of the tissues involved and severity of injury thus helping to assure a comfortable treatment experience is realized.

If you have been in a motor vehicle collision, schedule an appointment with us for a comprehensive approach to your injuries before relying on analgesic and anti-inflammatory medications and surgery.

Osteoarthritis
Arthritis is a condition that is caused by a wearing down or degeneration of the cartilage between joints. Some of the major joints that are affected are the knees, hips, back, neck, and hands/wrist. Arthritis can be painful and can cause the affected areas to function improperly. Arthritis in one area can cause arthritis or other problems in a different joint. For instance, if you have arthritis in your left knee, you may compensate for this by putting more pressure on your right side, leading to right hip problems. Pain killers can cause temporary relief from pain and discomfort, but it is not a long term solution. In fact long term reliance on pain reliever and anti-inflammatory medication can have a weakening, degenerative or other detrimental effect on the joint cartilage and tendons. Chiropractic can alleviate pain and discomfort through natural anti-inflammatory nutrient and dietary treatment along with physical treatment to release pressure and improve efficiency of the mechanical system. It can also restore proper joint movement, helping to ensure that you use proper motion and not cause injury to other parts of your body. We are not concerned strictly with the affected area, but rather the body as a whole. We aim to restore and maintain proper movement and functionality to increase your overall well being.

Headaches
Many people believe their headaches are caused by a loud noise, fatigue and tiredness or stress. While these are all factors that can lead to headaches, the primary cause common in most headaches is tension, tightness or restricted movement of the cervical (neck) vertebra. The tightness can create biomechanical dysfunctions or altered biomechanics in the vertebrae of your neck, The dysfunctional areas of your spine build-up enough to irritate your nerve receptors in your neck; and/or simply short circuit the normal stream of nerve activity coming from your joints, muscles and tendons in the region. This will have an effect on your nervous system causing the sensation of an ache throughout your head which may be dull and achy to throbbing and sharp. At times the condition can affect more tissues and nerves thus causing symptoms to travel to the face such as pain behind the eye.

In either event, it is imperative to have your vertebral joint function examined to assure restrictions and excess mobility (joint dysfunction) are addressed before taking drugs to reduce only the symptoms. Remember, only direct physical corrective treatment can restore good joint function, improve nervous system activation and alleviate symptoms such as pain. Call today and get started on the road to good health without the headache.

Neck, Mid-back and Lower Back Pain
Pain, discomfort and stiffness along the spinal column in your neck, mid-back and/or lower back is usually caused by joint dyfunction (biomechanical faults, subluxations, misalignments) of your vertebrae. Normal mechanics of you musculoskeletal system consists of a smooth and balanced of the joints with little to no restrictions throughout their normal mechanically limited movement. As this occurs, joint capsules, ligaments, tendons and muscles check the mobility and assure appropriate ranges are maintained. Simultaneously, the tiny nerve receptors that invest within these tissues are stimulated for the purpose of providing your spinal cord and brain with information needed to respond to the physical environment. Thus, your body's postural place and movements throughout your activities of daily living are constantly monitored and adjusted according to the infomration received. As the joints become dysfunctional or fail to move in their proper mechanics, their capacity to stimulate the nervous system becomes compromised thus reducing stimulation of the nerve in the affected areas. The nervous system has less information it can use to respond to the environment and maintain good physical health and mobility. The system is short circuited. The contractions and relaxations of your muscles become imbalanced, thus causing increased stress and inflammation in affected areas of your spine. Minor joint dysfunctions may not be symptomatic. As they progress and more areas become compromised, the muscle tension and inflammation may build to the point of detection and sufficient pain to decide to obtain relief. Chiropractic treatment includes soft tissue therapy, mobilizations, traction, manipulation, electricity, ultra-sound, exercises and nutrient planning to restore good biomechanical and biochemical function for your good health and well-being.

Medications do not correct the physical joint dysfunction occurring with mechanical neck, mid-back and/or and lower back pain. They must be corrected with physical treatment, diagnosed and specifically balanced for maximal effect. Call and make an appointment for direct relief of your neck, mid-back and/or lower back pain.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
This condition is most commonly associated with people who are constantly using a computer with typing and/or mousing activities. Typing is a motion that, when performed repetitively and with poor posture, can cause a build-up of pressure and inflammation in the wrist joint due to the small continuous movements of the fingers while the wrist is held in a slightly flexed and static position. Symptoms include pain, numbness, weakness, burning sensation and swelling along the thumb and index finger. The structures that pass through tunnels of the wrist formed from the bones and ligaments are compressed directly or indirectly when fluid builds in the region. Chiropractic treatment can help by reducing the inflammation build-up, restoring the wrist bone mobility, reducing the bunching of the ligaments and improving the joint function in the wrist and upper extremity. With the various soft tissue techniques and manipulation services used in the office writst problems and carpal tunnel syndrome are often relieved.

Don't wait for the wrist and upper extremity to worsen. Call us today for relief.

Sciatica
Sciatica is a condition that results when the sciatic nerve becomes irritated. This nerve is formed from 3 to 4 spinal nerves combining in the buttock and progressing to the lower leg and foot. Bulging discs, spinal dysfunctions and muscle spasms can all cause increased pressure or irritation on the sciatic nerve. When this happens it causes pain, numbness, and/or weakness in the lower leg. The pressure on the nerve must be relieved in order to alleviate the pain. To properly treat sciatica the cause of the condition needs to be diagnosed and properly treated. The pressure on the nerve must be relieved in order to alleviate the pain. An examination can reveal the cause of the condition and a treatment series will relieve the pain by restoring the normal joint mobility and function of your spinal joints and reduce the inflammation occurring within the muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints and discs.

Sciatica is not a pleasant feeling. Make sure you have chiropractic treatment to address and correct the primary cause of sciatica.

Allergies
Chiropractic care can help reduce the severity and frequency of your allergies by addressing offending environmental and dietary allergens, providing nutrient or dietary recommendations to support your immune function and improve nervous system stimulation. Chiropractic does not work as an anti-histamine as a direct, short term relief from allergies. Improving your nutrient foundation with physical efficiency allows your body to be better equipped to fight against allergies. Allergies are a reaction by your immune system to an allergen (substances that normally collected and disposed in your immune system) resulting in tissue inflammation that leads to possibly sneezing, coughing, congestion, hives, rashes. Severe cases such as seizure and anaphylactic shock require immediate medical emergency attention. When your nervous system is under stress and not functioning well, your immune system may not work at an optimal level. We pursue a balancing of your nervous system to help establish a balanced immune system.

If you suffer from allergies, chiropractic can help you find relief. Schedule an appointment today.
