History

History.jpgDid you know the chiropractic concept dates back to the time of Hippocrates? He believed that if the spine was misaligned, it greatly affected the health of the individual.

The modern day school of chiropractic dates back to 1895, when Dr. Daniel David Palmer adjusted a man, Harvey Lilliard who lost his hearing 17 years prior.
Harvey recalled that just prior to losing his hearing he heard and felt a pop in his back. Dr. Palmer theorized the problem of his hearing loss was related to a misaligned vertebra. Thus he decided to "adjust" the vertebra to restore its position. This adjustment treatment offered great relief and restored Harvey's hearing. Dr. Palmer thought he had a cure for hearing and announced his discovery. As word grew, many with hearing difficulties sought Dr. Palmer’s cure. Although the results were not well duplicated, Dr. Palmer and his patients noticed many other ills and conditions improved. Thus, with further study and practice, Dr. Palmer developed the chiropractic healing art discipline - a whole person centered naturally based system of health care focused on establishing normal nervous system function to assure the body can respond well to the environment and thus establish and maintain good health and well-being.

While the medical community criticized this new discipline for healing the body, the people and doctors who followed in these footsteps found a safe, effective and natural way of addressing and alleviating their general ills. Dr. Palmer's theories are supported by neuroscience research today. Without Dr. Palmer's input into medicine in a time where he was greatly discredited, the millions of people today who enjoy the life changing benefits may never have had this opportunity. The chiropractic profession continues to develop as the leader in whole person centered naturally based primary care and specialty care - the non-drug and non-surgical approach to health and well-being. Chiropractic is the whole person healing art discipline that provides practical, effective and comprehensive approaches to establish structural - nervous system balance and good health and well-being.
