Stages of Chiropractic Care

Treatment for each patient’s condition may be applied for musculoskeletal and visceral aspects of health with longer and more frequent care required for the chronic and deep seated condition. Progress through certain stages of care may include:

Inflammation:  The relief of inflammation and / or pain is typically every person’s first interest in care. The inflammatory state releases many types of chemicals which stimulate nerves which register tissue injury. Treatment is essential to reduce the excess stimulation of these nerves. Typically, a treatment frequency of 2 to 5 visits per week over a 1 to 3 week period is recommended. Treatment may include ice, electric stimulation, ultra sound, massage, mobilization, traction, adjustments, bracing, nutritional supplementation, botanical and herbal remedies, counseling on diet and activities of daily living.

Repair/Remodel:  Upon the reduction of inflammation, the tissues must now be repaired to their normal consistency and function. This is a healing stage where the tissue reestablishes normal structure and function. Treatment is essential to assure the tissues begin to heal under the correct conditions. Typically, a treatment frequency of 3 to 1 visits per week over a 2 to 6 week period is recommended during this stage. Treatment may include ice, electric stimulation, ultra sound, massage, mobilization, traction, adjustments, bracing, nutritional supplementation, botanical and herbal remedies, counseling on diet and activities of daily living.

Strengthen:  As the tissues begin to repair and remodel, their strength and flexibility become important to re-establish. This helps the tissue to improve their stress resilience. Treatment assures the tissues heal with good strength and flexibility. Treatment frequency of 2 to 1 visits per week over a 2 to 6 week period is recommended during this stage. Treatment may include ice, heat, exercise, massage, mobilization, adjustments, nutritional supplementation or botanical and herbal remedies, counseling on diet and activities of daily living.

Supportive:  During this stage we address periodic problems or flare ups of permanent conditions which may arise from general activities of daily living. We monitor the patients daily health habits by addressing the structural, biochemical and mental aspects that determine good health and well being. In addressing structural health we offer periodic care to re-establish normal spinal or extremity alignment, mobility and function. This helps the structural system to effectively respond to physical forces of the environment and help the nervous system function more effectively. Biochemical issues are addressed through nutritional counseling. The state of mind is so important in determining ones health. Thus we strive to offer positive mental support and simple tips in achieving good health and well being. Where the mind goes, so does the body. Treatment frequency of 1 visit per 2 to 8 weeks or when needed throughout your life is recommended. Treatment may include heat, exercise, massage, mobilization, adjustments, nutritional and activities of daily living counseling, supplementation or herbal remedies.

Wellness:  This stage is largely without symptoms of ill health. Our objective is to assure the structural, biochemical and mental aspects that determine good health and well being are well balanced and maintained. Treatment frequency of 1 visit per 1 to 12 months throughout life is recommended. Treatment may include heat, exercise, massage, mobilization, adjustments, nutritional and activities of daily living counseling, supplementation or herbal remedies.

Following through with these stages is very important in achieving good health and wellness. By maintaining the schedule and participating in recommended home activities, treatment success is likely to be achieved. The decision to follow through with any of the stages above is entirely up to the patient and respected by our office. We encourage a proactive and enthusiastic approach to achieving good health and well being.
